Well, I have had this journal for however many years, switching from my 2003 first journal when I decided that ‘AineTassorosso’ was a bit of a mouthful to type on a daily basis. The diary-keeping I’ve done since then has been very sporadic, on paper and (particularly since my parents started fostering) in ungrammatical French. But maybe this time I will succeed in posting! I have meant to many many times before – I’ll start keeping a record of my time in France; I’ll start keeping a record of my time in Oxford – but the long entries filled with Interesting Thoughts that I’ve composed in my head have never yet made it onto paper.

So instead I am writing a post filled with Uninteresting Thoughts. Currently at home, watching Criminal Minds and eating quiche. (I don’t digest things easily at the best of times, and 11pm is definitely not the best of times. But it tastes so good!). I baked macaroons today, and did not do anything on my to-do list.

Sooo... I currently have gloriously pink hair, three quarters of a degree in English and French and a playlist of mixed alt rock, Celtic folk and Gilbert and Sullivan that I have just created. I am living at home for the holidays, with my parents and my 10-year old foster sister - I’ve been home for a week now since the end of term and things are going pretty well. I have lots and lots of TV to read, and lots of writing to do for my extended essay on Renee Vivien, who was an awesome English-French lesbian poet at the turn of the century who wrote lots of morbid love poetry and travelled the world and stuff. And I could continue talking about her for a ridiculous amount of time because she was generally awesome. I desperately wish that there was a fandom of fin-de-siecle lesbian poets, because I would totally be all over that, making fanmixes and manips and reading implausible fix-it fics where she didn't die of ill-health brought on by her anorexia and alcoholism at age 30 and got back together with Natalie Barney and was actually happy.

I have lost sensation in my feet. This probably means that it is time to turn off the computer, have an early night (It's only 1am!) and go conserve heat under multiple duvets. Ug.

I've never watched Criminal Minds, so I can't pass judgement on that, but can confidently state that quiche is definitely not boring. And I would love to see more posts from you, absolutely.

I fully support this! (I would also rather like fandom for first-half-of-the-twentieth century awesome feminist and bohemian writers.)

Mmn, quiche. I did regret it later, but it was still totally worth it. Criminal Minds is good fun (for a definition of fun that includes 'weekly serial killers and horrific crimes' as well as 'awesome team dynamics and lovely competent characters') - I'm really enjoying getting into it. Mind, I am concurrently watching Merlin and Xena:Warrior Princess to provide it with a balance of cheesy fluff.

I would absolutely support that fandom. I just want to be a bohemian bluestocking, is that so wrong? Well, except not, because I rather like having things like voting rights and in-house toilets and modern medicine.

I really don't have enough opportunities to use it. I now regret deleting the other one I made of him pulling a ridiculous face, because I'd be able to use it now.

If wanting to be a bohemian bluestocking is wrong, I don't want to be right. Can't we just go and be copywriters in the Pym's Publicity of the 1930s? (And yes, voting rights and in-house toilets and modern medicine are all great and probably trump being a bluestocking in the 30s, but it's still appealing.)

Have you seen the Mark Reads/Watches blogs? It's this guy who watches shows and reads books without knowing anything about them going in - and he's just started Buffy (http://markwatches.net/reviews/2011/12/mark-watches-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-s01e01-welcome-to-the-hellmouth/#idc-container). He'll be reviewing it as he goes, an episode a day, from beginning to end. (And next week he starts reading LotR, about which I am both ecstatic and terrified. What if he hates it?)

Ooh, cool! Thank you. I'd heard of the blog (in the context of Harry Potter) but not read it. (But what is he hates Buffy? I have a lot of feelings about this.)

Did I ever tell you that Prof M at Merton hates Lord of the Rings? He said so at the Shrove Tuesday dinner for finalists and I hysterically remonstrated with him.

Was this where the 'leather-clad little elves' thing came from?

From: [identity profile] littlered2.livejournal.com
It was indeed. The conversation went roughly as follows:
Him: blah blah really dislike Lord of the Rings-
Me: What are you saying, man?
Him: It's really long!
Me: SO IS THE FAERIE QUEENE
Him: Admittedly, I've never actually read it, but the Warden gave me a copy of Bored of the Rings once. Leather-clad, sexy little elves ... [my brain breaks]
